Newcomers Open House

The PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada will host their annual Christmas Open House on Wednesday, December 11th at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Memorial Hall from 3:00PM – 6:00PM.

There will be entertainment by The Singing Strings, Holland College Newcomer Choir, and Canada World Youth (Canada and Indonesia). Enjoy international snacks like samosas, dumplings and sushi, hot mulled apple cider, green tea, and there is sure to be a visit from Santa! Everyone is invited. Bring your Christmas spirit!

The Open House will feature three amazing art exhibitions:

•             ArtSmarts student display on the theme of "diversity" (only at this event)

•             Ni'n na L'nu: The Mi'kmaq of Prince Edward Island (in the Confederation Centre Art Gallery)

•             An art show of work by several newcomer artists (at The Guild)

Earlier in the day, PEI ANC is a partner in a special diversity-themed presentation for schools participating in the Celebrating Diversity: Exploring Culture, Language, Identity and Global Citizenship ArtSmart’s project. Students from Birchwood Intermediate School, Prince Street Elementary School, and École François-Buote have created artistic work with newcomer artists, pre-service teachers, and their regular teachers, during the course of this project. Their artwork is being showcased as part of the event at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

The public is invited to view the exhibits between 3:00-6:00pm during the Christmas Open House which culminates the day’s activities.

The Celebrating Diversity: Exploring Culture, Language, Identity and Global Citizenship project is a wonderful collaboration between ArtsSmarts PEI, the Confederation Centre of the Arts, The PEI Council of the Arts, the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada, the Faculty of  Education at the University of Prince Edward Island, The Guild, The FCÎPÉ, Culture PEI, the RDÉE ÎPÉ (the Francophone economic development council of PEI), the Coopérative d’intégration francophone de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard (CIF), and The Friends of the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

These partners, our sponsor—the City of Charlottetown, and the PEI ANC Board of Directors and staff wish you and yours the very best of the season and a Happy New Year. Join us at the Christmas Open House to experience the magic of diversity.
