Submissions Open For 15th Annual Music PEI Awards

Music PEI, the music industry association for Prince Edward Island, is very happy to announce the opening of submissions for the 15th annual Music PEI Awards. The event yearly celebrates the creativity, accomplishments and dedication or our artists and industry. Each year Music PEI hands out over 30 awards to deserving artists and industry professionals. Submissions close February 19th at 5:00pm.

There are a few changes this year to existing awards and some new awards to add to the celebration. Some highlights include the addition of new awards for Volunteer of the Year, Cover Band of the year, Presenter of the Year, Digital Achievement of the Year and Live Music Programmer of the Year. Some changes to existing awards include a change from Francophone Recording of the Year to Acadian/Francophone Achievement of the Year and the reactivation of Studio of the Year. The voting process has also seen some changes with more awards going to an all jury voting process. Approximately 15 are still voted on by the membership while 2 rounds of juries made up of industry professionals now decide 17.

The Music PEI Board of Directors decides an additional 4 awards and they include Educator of the Year, Industry Person of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and Rooted to the Island. The Board is open to suggestions by the community for Lifetime Achievement and is glad to accept recommendations at

The awards will be handed out during Music PEI Week and the May Run Music festival. A full schedule for the event is currently being finalised and will be launched in the coming weeks, but the dates are set from May 18 to the 22 with events happening across PEI. During the May Run Music Festival, there will be a combination of concerts and showcases. Awards will be handed out at major concerts during the festival and at an industry event scheduled for Sunday May 22nd. Submissions are also open now for Showcase opportunities at Festival as well as co-­writing opportunities with songwriters from across Canada as part of The Canadian Songwriter Challenge during the Bell Aliant Canadian Song Conference.
